Affiliate tracking software records which partner sent each click, sign-up and sale, calculates the commission owed and gives every affiliate their own links and reports. MassPartner combines tracking links, a JavaScript tracking script and S2S postbacks with fraud scoring, conversion approval, affiliate contracts and payouts, so a brand can run its whole partner program from one dashboard. Plans start at $79 a month.
This page explains what the software does, how each part works on MassPartner, where its limits are and how to compare it with other platforms. For the commercial overview of running a program, see MassPartner for brands.
Affiliate tracking vs affiliate management software
The terms overlap, but they describe different layers:
- Tracking answers "who gets credit": click IDs, cookies, postbacks, attribution and fraud checks.
- Management answers "how the program runs": onboarding, commission rules, approvals, creatives, contracts and payouts.
- Affiliate program software usually means both, plus a portal where partners sign up, get links and see their stats.
A tracker alone leaves you reconciling commissions in spreadsheets, and a management tool without solid tracking pays the wrong people. MassPartner covers both layers, plus a free affiliate side with a marketplace where publishers find and join brand programs.
Tracking: links, script and S2S postbacks
Every campaign gets tracking links with redirect, and affiliates can add up to five sub IDs to segment their traffic. Each click receives a unique click ID. Attribution is last click within the campaign's cookie duration, which defaults to 30 days and can be changed per campaign.
To report conversions, you have two options. The JavaScript tracking script stores the click ID in a first-party cookie on your site and can record conversions from the browser. S2S postback tracking reports them from your server, authenticated with a per-brand secret token or an HMAC signature, which keeps attribution accurate when cookies are blocked or the event happens days later.
The tracking page in the brand dashboard lists the parameters and includes an installation tester. For the background on server-side reporting, read what a postback URL is.
Commission models and payout rules
| Commission type | Pays for | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| CPA | A defined action, such as a first deposit or a paid account | iGaming, fintech, subscriptions |
| CPS | A percentage or fixed amount per sale | E-commerce |
| CPL | A qualified lead or sign-up | Lead generation, B2B |
| CPC | A click | Traffic deals with strict fraud controls |
| CPI | An app install | Mobile apps |
| RevShare | A share of the revenue you report | iGaming, crypto, SaaS |
| Hybrid | A CPA plus a RevShare | Partners who want upfront and ongoing pay |
Each campaign also sets a payout model (first purchase only, all purchases, recurring for a set number of months, or lifetime), optional daily, monthly and total conversion caps, and an approval mode. Percentage commissions are calculated on the amount you send with each conversion. Our comparison of CPA vs RevShare vs hybrid shows how to choose between them.
Fraud protection and traffic quality
Every click is scored before it can earn a commission. The checks include datacenter and hosting IP detection, click-velocity limits, user-agent and HTTP-header checks, an IP reputation history with automatic blacklisting, and device fingerprinting. Together they produce a fraud score, and conversions from high-risk clicks are not approved automatically.
Campaigns can also restrict traffic by country. With allowed or blocked country lists, a click from an excluded country is logged with the reason and receives no click ID, so it can't produce a commission, and blocked clicks appear in your reports.
Conversion approval can be automatic, manual or delayed by a set number of days, which gives refunds and chargebacks time to surface before you pay. Our guide to affiliate fraud detection explains which patterns each control addresses.
Contracts, creatives and the affiliate portal
- Affiliate contracts. Generate an affiliate agreement with AI assistance, pick prohibited-actions clauses such as brand bidding, incentivized traffic, cookie stuffing or false claims, and collect e-signatures. Version history and PDF export keep a record of what each partner accepted. Our affiliate agreement template lists the clauses most programs need.
- Creatives. A banner library per campaign, including HTML5 and animated banners, so affiliates promote approved assets.
- Branded portal. Each brand gets its own affiliate portal at masspartner.com/your-brand, built with a theme and portal builder. Business and Enterprise plans add white-label options and a custom domain.
- Reports and exports. Clicks (including blocked clicks), conversions and commissions, with CSV exports.

How to choose affiliate tracking software
| Question to ask | Why it matters | MassPartner |
|---|---|---|
| Which tracking methods are supported? | Cookie-only tracking under-reports | Links, JavaScript script, authenticated S2S postbacks |
| Which commission models? | Your deals must fit without workarounds | CPA, CPS, CPL, CPC, CPI, RevShare, hybrid |
| How is fraud handled before payout? | Paying first and disputing later is expensive | Fraud score per click, country blocking, approval holds |
| Can partners sign terms in the platform? | Prohibited actions need a signed record | AI-assisted contracts, e-signatures, version history |
| Which payout methods? | Global partners need more than one rail | PayPal, Payoneer, bank transfer, crypto |
| Is pricing published? | Quote-only tools slow down evaluation | Yes, from $79/month with a 7-day free trial |
| What is out of scope? | Gaps surface after migration | See the next paragraph |
Know the limits before you commit. MassPartner does not calculate iGaming NGR from player-level data, automate negative carryover or manage btags in operator-owned trackers. It has no Shopify or Stripe app and no Meta or TikTok conversion exports, and it does not hold a SOC 2 certification. If those are requirements, a specialist platform may fit better; our affiliate software pricing comparison lists published prices for 16 platforms.

FAQ
What is affiliate tracking software?
It is software that records which affiliate sent each click and conversion, using tracking links, cookies or server-to-server postbacks, and calculates the commission owed. Most platforms also include affiliate management features such as approvals, creatives and payouts.
What is the difference between affiliate tracking and affiliate management software?
Tracking attributes clicks and conversions to partners. Management covers running the program: onboarding affiliates, commission rules, approvals, contracts and payouts. MassPartner includes both.
How much does affiliate tracking software cost?
MassPartner costs $79 a month on Starter, $149 on Professional, $299 on Business and from $699 on Enterprise, with a 7-day free trial. Other vendors range from low-cost SaaS plans to quote-only enterprise suites.
Does MassPartner work without third-party cookies?
Yes. The tracking script uses a first-party cookie, and S2S postbacks report conversions from your server with the stored click ID, so attribution doesn't depend on third-party cookies.
Is MassPartner free for affiliates?
Yes. Affiliates join for free, apply to brand programs in the marketplace and get personal tracking links with sub IDs. Brands pay for the platform.
