RevShare (revenue share) is a commission model in which the affiliate earns an agreed percentage of the revenue their referred customers generate, usually for as long as those customers stay active. Instead of a one-time payout, the affiliate shares in each period's revenue. It is common in iGaming, trading, SaaS subscriptions, and other businesses with recurring customer value.
How it works
The program defines the revenue base, such as subscription revenue or, in iGaming, NGR, plus the percentage and the reporting period, usually monthly. Commission is calculated across all customers the affiliate referred:
RevShare commission = revenue base for the period x RevShare %
Tiered deals raise the percentage as volume grows, and some programs limit the duration, for example to a fixed number of months, instead of paying for the customer's lifetime.
Example
Example: an affiliate on 30% RevShare in an iGaming program.
Month 1: NGR from referred players = $10,000 -> commission $3,000
Month 2: NGR = $4,000 -> commission $1,200
Month 3: NGR = -$2,000 (players won overall) -> commission $0
What happens to the -$2,000 in month 3 depends on whether the program applies negative carryover.
Why it matters
For brands, RevShare ties payouts to actual customer value and pushes affiliates toward high-quality, long-lived customers; the cost is an ongoing liability on every referred customer. For affiliates, RevShare can build compounding income from a growing customer base, but cash flow is slower and depends on the brand's retention and reporting transparency. In iGaming, promote only operators licensed in your target market and follow local responsible-gambling and advertising rules. Compare models in CPA vs RevShare vs Hybrid.
